On the latest release from Sometymes Why, the harmonies of Aoife O’Donovan (also of Crooked Still), Ruth Ungar (The Mammals), and Kristin Andreassen (Uncle Earl) are startling, yet dreamily familiar. Your Heart Is a Glorious Machine is their latest release, and it is full of whimsical songs, girlishly flirtatious and enrapturing.

Take one part Rose Polenzani, Chicago native singer and songwriter; add one part Session Americana, the highly acclaimed Boston folk/country band and mix together well. This is a recipe for success made known in their collaborative album, “Where the River Meets the Sea”.
Winning the prestige of Boston Music Awards’ Best Female Vocalist in 2007, Rose Polenzani has already made her own imprint on the folk music scene, with her soft yet striking voice gracing four previous solo albums. Rose’s voice seems to radiate an artful sense of serenity mixed with fervor and angst. Tunes, such as “and these hands” and “the first time” off of her 2004 album, “August” are of the many songs that best demonstrate Rose’s delicate musical delivery. Released in May of 2008, “Where the River Meets the Sea” proves to be somewhat of a departure from Rose’s previous albums but certainly does not disappoint. Tags: |
