This may be the best way to describe The Paper Raincoat’s innovative EP, “Safe in the Sound”. The Paper Raincoat is the brain child of musicians Amber Rubarth, MySpace Mega-star and Alex Wong, ex-member of the former nationally acclaimed band, The Animators.
This collection of tracks is the first debut release from the collaborative pair
and seems to be stirring up its own unique musical atmosphere. A mingling of strings, melody and narrative all come together and blend beautifully to create what can only be described as a smiling symphony of sorts. All of these combined elements seem to stand out on their own somehow, while each playing a part in telling the story: from a sounding chime, to the delicate vocal presence of Amy Rubarth. Songs like, “Safe in the Sound” have the whimsical quality and arrangement of a piece you might expect to find in the score of a musical; a testament to the production styling of Alex Wong. While a tune such as “Sympathetic Vibrations” dabbles in the eclectic, with a mix of electronic elements and a catchy beat at its center. Over all, the feel of the EP is both thought provoking and light, and is a refreshing and unique introduction to this aspiring New York group. Recently playing in Boston, The Paper Raincoat has future tour dates hitting the West Coast this April. For tour information, music and more visit www.thepaperraincoat.com.

Some songs just have a way of speaking to us. But have you ever heard a song and felt as though it had a way of lifting your spirits: a song that felt as though it had its own smile?
