August is festival month and our Staff here at NotYourAverageFolk.com want to share the top 4 folk and/or acoustic music festivals this month. The festivals generally have 2 or more live music stages, vendor booths with crafts & merchandise, and more food than you can think of ever eating.
August 1st & 2nd - Newport's Folk Festival 50 - Fort Adams Park, Newport, RI This Newport Folk Festival is one of the staples of the area. George Wein is putting on the event hosting artists as diverse as Pete Seager, The Decemberists, Gillian Welch, Billy Bragg, Ben KWeller and many more. This is definitely a festival not to miss! August 9th - The Rockport Acoustic Music Festival, Rockport, MA 0 years ago friends got together to play some music in the park across from the beach... you know, the meadow... with a view of the ocean, some swings and a slide... yeah, that place with the waterfall and the bridges over the streams. Nice.Since 1979, the festival has brought performers from many genres—acoustic rock, folk, world, blues, jazz, Celtic, bluegrass, world vibe, and more—from across the country to perform during the peak of our summer season in Rockport, Massachusetts. August 15th - Berkshire Women's Muse Fest - Wahconah Park - Pittsfield, MA This festival is the first annual and will be held at the historic Wahconah Park in Pittsfield, MA. The performers include: Melissa Ferrick, Cheryl Wheeler, Gretchen Peters, Nervous But Excited, SONiA from Dissappear Fear, and more. September 12th & 13th - 2009 Boston Folk Music Festival at UMass Boston - Boston, MA This festival has been a staple of the Boston Folk Community. It is run by WUMB and information can be found at their website. It includes performances on three stage and includes perfomers such as: Performing at the Lipke Stage: Dar Williams, Jill Sobule, Boston T Party (Alastair Moock, Merrie Amsterburg, Tim Gearan, Rose Polenzani), Jeff Black, Kerri Powers, winner of Songwriting contest.
